Moose Hunting in Northern Ontario

A Northern Ontario moose hunt takes careful planning long before guests reach camp. Tags, licences, hunt areas, group plans, access, equipment and meat care all need to be settled before travel.

Ask detailed package questions

A lodge may provide only accommodation, or it may offer a package with guide help, boats, transportation and other services. Ask what is included in writing. Confirm the Wildlife Management Unit, access method, daily travel, group size and what equipment guests must bring.

Moose country can include cutovers, wetlands, burns, logging roads, lakes and long stretches of bush. The lodge should explain how hunters reach the hunt area and whether boats, ATVs or other transportation are part of the package.

Plan for the work after the hunt

Groups need a clear plan for field care, retrieval, cooling and transport. Ask what help and facilities are available at camp. Weather can change quickly during fall, so clothing, navigation and emergency plans matter every day.

Ontario’s moose rules, tag process and reporting duties may change. Read the current Ontario Hunting Regulations Summary and confirm every requirement before booking or travelling.
